  3. A pedant is a person who is excessively concerned with formalism, accuracy, and precision, or one who makes an ostentatious and arrogant show of learning.
Tableau Software is an American interactive data visualization software company founded in January 2003 by Christian Chabot, Pat Hanrahan and Chris Stolte, in Mountain View, California.

Do I really need to refer to Google to watch this guy's video today ???

  4. Thanks for watching the whole video before commenting! Make sure to subscribe so I can see your comment and also so you don't miss part 3 coming later this week or early next (not decided yet). Cheers!

  5. And you won’t be poisoning all the kids while you’re waiting to pick up your children in your school’s car loop. There are studies out there related to schools near exhaust sources.

  6. My wife "They are all too small, do they make normal size cars?"

Gonna have to wait for the real electric SUVs to come to market.

  7. The Earner INFORMS the Succubus of the impending purchase…. No permission necessary… Whoever earns more, gets more say.

  8. Ben, Ben, Ben. All you needed to say was "Jen, an incredibly beautiful woman like you deserves a beautiful car like a Tesla. Let's go buy one!!" Sales pitch done!

  9. Question Ben: How do I pitch to my wife after pitching to my wife only 8 months ago to purchase a ZL1 Camaro? Asking for a friend…

  10. If you need a 3 part series in order to convince your wife to allow you to buy a Tesla, you probably shouldn’t but a Tesla.

  11. How to convince your wife to make a poor financial decision 😛

I mean it kinda works like this: if your wife trusted you with your finances then you would not need a two part series to buy a tesla. But then again, if your wife trusted you with your finances (as in you are fiscally responsible), then you wouldn't be buying a tesla.

As for the gas savings, sure, it is cheaper if you buy it now. But you have to remember that the reason gas costs that much is because it can… When electric cars start to go mainstream the gov will find another way to shaft you and make the difference. For example, in teslas the asking price and insurance pretty much covers the difference and then some, since if it weren't for tesla you'd be buying a cheaper car.

  12. Being safe and eco friendly is nice and all, but the whole reason I want a Tesla is because I want to go from 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. Doing that for under $60,000 is icing on the cake.

  13. @teslanomics do you have a cost of ownership calculator that allows you to account for doing your own maintenance such as oil changes and brake pads (the two most common & potentially cost producing maintenance items). For someone like me who does these two items I don’t spend nearly what others do paying mechanics to do these (aka there is a huge cost for the labor and markup on those products when paying mechanics to do it)

  14. I pretty convinced my wife on buying one except her last push back has to do with time… she want to see the Y in person before committing. But that's probably early/mid 2020 before we actually get to see one in person! Damnit.

  15. Wives sound like children…tell her a story??? Lmao marriage seems stupid af, I TOLD my girl why I'm buying a Tesla, wasn't any asking.

  16. You appear to be getting ready for battle. Then you prepare for a sneak attack and your the only one prepared. You wife gets blind sided. Hopefully your a little more subtle when negotiating a little romance. Most women have us figured out and know when they see smoke blown in their direction. Just present what you to do and why, if she has the smarts you married her for you will hear yes or no. Problem solved.

  17. @13:29 omg dude, seriously?? Ben, I love everything you've done except for this. "Teases that theres something worth paying attention to"?!?!?!? You're the man, sounds coming out your mouth as a man are the thing worth paying attention to. I thought you were an Alpha bro….

  18. I think the big push and the big draw to Tesla is their longevity, this culture built by a throw away society is the biggest issue, corporations building in timed life cycles and planned obsolescence into their devices overlooking the freedom to repair and designing things to be easier to replace than maintain. This is the reason our waste streams are so high and this is because of demand for growth in every sector forcing companies to be resourceful to get return clients while ensuring they have to replace the product or get killed by repair costs. It is embarrassing and if the world cares about the environment this will end. I would love to buy a car when im 18 and drive it till i die and then sell it to live again

  19. "Why should we buy a car in the first place" is the response that springs to mind for me, and to be honest that's a hard sell even against my internal monologue.

  20. This seems a bit ridiculous. It was a 20 minute conversation tops. Didn’t need charts and graphs. Wanted a new car. Made sure it fit our budget. Purchase.

It’s not an argument. It’s a simple discussion.

  21. Great video. when i move in CA, my brother in law encourage me to buy Gas car. he is a tesla hater. They have Lexus SUV mpg 16. I bought tesla model 3 performance & used everyday run 2,400 miles per month, I paid $35 electric in my car. My brother in law used his car for party only due to bigger gas consumption. Hahahaha.

  22. I wanted a Tesla – I bought it. End of story. Why would I ask my wife how I spend my money? Btw. We pay double the US gas prices in the EU, crazy!

  23. I want one so bad… But it doesn't make sense for us at this point in time. We drive a vw cc and I spend about 250mon in fuel. We own all our cars too, so all I'm spending is 250mon for fuel and then about 50mon for insurance. Maintenance is about 750yr too. So it's hard to justify it right now. We are going to drive it till the motor or transmission explodes, and then order a Tesla. I hope it last at least 5yrs in all honesty.

  24. If this series had been out 2 yrs ago my wife would have made me sit down and watch it. 😂
but as it happened.. she was like "give that nice Elon ALL DA MONEY. !!"

  25. I've blown all my credibility by talking about Tesla's for the past 2 years. This was a good video that lays out a better format.

  26. You forgot range anxiety and charging schedule.

Missed opportunity to say "when you free the data, your wife's mind will follow” 😉

  27. I already have an ev, and the places I charge, are free and the power comes from solar. The only fuel cost, is home charging, because the grid pays for a good feed in tariff for my solar. Today I'm already up to $3 and there's plenty of sun left for another$1. It pays my grid connection fee, loads of car mileage, give me a $200+ cheque from the energy company annually. I have and a Tesla 2 battery and solar , $17k . I've never bothered to work it out , but $400+every 2 months, and that was 3 years ago, in Australia they changed from quarterly, because they charge so much. I have friends with$2000+every 2 month's . I did the right thing, fuel and electricity, cost me nothing. In Australian people would attack this comment non stop as their income comes from coal mining and coal electrical power generation, but coal electric is incredibly expensive. I'm Joe average, I do what I need to, to keep my family going.

  28. My electric company provides a cheap EV night time charging of 0.01 you only need to get a 'smart meter' which only costs $15 per month forever. Also if you sign up for that rate your daytime rate goes up a little. soo watch out for these hidden fees.

  29. My wife: That’s great you survived the accident, but now we have this atrocious repair bill to fix the “cost saving” Tesla.

  30. I wanted to add one critique that I experienced. 1st of all I personally am legally blind so I won't "drive" a Tesla myself until they're fully autonomous. I'm a technical person like you with friends of both genders. A female friend has a husband who was a car enthusiast who was completely against electrification using most of the debunked talking points. She had a coworker who got a model 3 and gave her a ride which sold her. Now she had to convince her husband. He didn't concede at first but agreed, in order to make her learn he was right the hard way. With you knowing the cars you KNOW how this turned out. It should be suggested that you're actually pitching your spouse.

  31. Is there any trick to buying a used Tesla if you want to pay cash, as in Dave Ramsey style? I don't mind working on the vehicle myself if necessary, but we have decided to only buy outright, no financing ever again.

  32. I called her and said… "I just paid 1000€ for a Car that will be open for Orders in two Years or so…"
    She said … "Kay"
So it has not to be that complicated….

  33. If you have 2 Tesla why buy more? As for EV vs GAS just get solar and EV charging at home will be free. I AM IN MODEL Y waiting list.

  34. Ben, I’m confused. I watch a lot of your videos regarding tesla ownership as well as several other “you tubers” expressing ownership cost of a Tesla, but what bothers me is the idea that it is supposed to be cheaper to own a tesla versus “Ice”….. it doesn’t appear to be true especially after driving a tesla over 100,l00mi heck even after 60,000mi. It appears the cost of keeping the Tesla running due to some unexpected repair is more costly than purchasing gas for a year. I own a Tundra and yes its a gas guzzler but gas cost has run me just under 2,000 for per year (2yr old vehicle) thus far no true maintenance cost has occurred and my first cost for an oil change is only 75.00. Yet, the cost for repairing a Tesla is showing to be more over a few years whether is for a repair or simple maintenance. I truly want to purchase one (waiting on the truck showing) but I’m really concerned with the after ownership cost. Can you give me an honest review of ownership after 50,000mi and over. I m sure. You probably have a video on this and I may have missed it. Thanks 🙏🏾

  35. This series is kinda funny/pointless. I mean, if you can afford a Tesla, why should you have to convince anyone, especially your wife. And if you don't have enough money then your wife is not the one you need to convince of anything. My wife likes the car, she wants the 3, I'm taller and want the S, we can't afford either of them..

  36. I think you are stereotyping women. As if they cannot inform themselves.
I admit, my wife is more beta than me but she did not need any 'fabricated/sugarcoated story' but FACTS!

Your approach gives me the feeling that you are using a kind of 1950's (not emancipated) view of women. I am not from the USA but from the Netherlands so maybe our culture differs more than I thought…

We started out buying a 2nd hand Leaf while already having a Model 3 reservation. Currently we own these 2 EV's and we both see the benefits.

  37. Ben – my husband and I love your YouTube videos but I want to give a shout out to other women like ME who had to convince our husbands/partners that owning this amazing brand of car would be the right move. He was easy to persuade but I was also the dragger about our solar panels. He's happy we have them now, and just as in love with our Model 3 (a year and month old) but it was me who had the strong wish to own this car. I'm still lobbying for ordering our Y and haven't succeeded yet…..

  38. Next from Teslanomics w/ Ben Sullins: “Convincing your wife to let you touch her when she has a “headache”…let’s dive in”

  39. EVs are not “great for the environment”. They are better than gas cars, for sure, but they still consume resources. Trees are good for the environment, but not cars of any type.

  40. One fairly major caveat to fuel calculator for those of us not in the perfect climate of Southern California: efficiency drops somewhere around 30% in winter. Granted, ICE efficiency drops, but not as much because Model 3 heater uses so much power.

  41. Ben, I see a critical mistake on your cost calculator. Tesla model selection is 3SX, instead of the proper order: S3X. 😀

  42. I can’t agree on the safety issue.
Without having the numbers in front of me I have to assume that the “autopilot” accident rate includes the times that the driver intervenes to avoid an incident. And that intervention rate is hugely significant in the debate, especially given the hubris that accompanies the dash towards FSD.

  43. I can just hear every woman or convincee with highly sceptical raised eyebrows thinking, "O-h, y-e-s. What are they up to now?" Or "What are they after now?" Something along those lines.

Sounds like Ben does an awful lot of 'convincing' Jennie whenever he wants to spend any 'serious' money 💰 given his extravagant spending habits in his pre-Jennie days. 😉😉😁😁

  44. Another good video Ben. My wife has gone from: "Why do you even want a Tesla?" to "How do I turn on Santa mode?" so I must have done something right 🙂

  45. Well, it took me 4 years to convince myself that buying Tesla is the supreme decision after taking into account the competition, the company policies, hundreds of owners reviews, etc. Then it took me 2 years to convince my wife. Now I am buying Model 3to have it in Croatia, and Model X for Germany. 🤩

  46. Imagine a time of day gas price change, where off hours is cheaper Everyday. Crazy. But this option is what EV cars get to the already extreme lower cost per mile.

  47. As for the Environment Debate: the Fact that the Government’s Environmental Sector and the Federal Incentive are paying rebates for 7,000-10,000 buying a Tesla IS alone Proof that Tesla is Best for the Environment. You dont see ICE cars getting paid by the Government for buying them.

  48. The Large amount of the initial energy spent to make Tesla, just like the Large Initial Cost to Buy Tesla, will BOTH DECREASE tremendously over a short period of time.

  49. The Wife wasn't interested in the Y or 3, but I showed her the Cybertruck just to check her reaction and she said, "ohhh I want one". I didn't see that coming.
